Education
My Values
I’m the daughter of a teacher, the proud wife of an educator and a mother of four sons – including one who started his career as a machinist. I know firsthand the importance of a great education for all students. That means fully funding our public schools and giving students a range of opportunities after they graduate high school, including career skills, technical education and apprenticeship programs. It’s our job to build the skilled workforce we need to compete on the global stage and build a strong domestic economy, and I’ll keep working to ensure every student in Minnesota has the resources to succeed.
What I’ve Done
- I wrote and introduced the 21st Century Workforce Partnerships Act to provide hands-on training for students with local employers and schools.
- I supported increasing Federal Pell Grants and additional investments in our two-year and community colleges.
- I helped introduce the Remedial Education Improvement Act to create a grant program allowing federal student aid money to support up to two years of developmental education, making post-secondary education more affordable and accessible.
- I’ve been a longtime proponent of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and fought to ensure special education programs across our district are fully funded.
